Reaching your fitness goals isn’t just about showing up to a gym
Setting the right goals is one of the most important parts of any fitness journey, but it’s also where many people go wrong. Vague targets like “get fit” or “lose weight” are a start, but they won’t keep you focused or accountable. As a personal trainer in Leeds, one of the first things I do with clients is help them set clear, realistic, and achievable goals.
Whether it’s fat loss, building muscle, or improving your fitness levels, your goal should be measurable. “Lose 5kg in 12 weeks” is far more effective than “get in shape.” It gives you a timeline and something to work towards.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is expecting too much too soon. Real progress takes time, and sustainable change doesn’t happen overnight. I help clients break larger goals into smaller, manageable milestones, each one a step forward.
We don’t just rely on the scales. I use measurements, progress photos, strength improvements, and how you feel day-to-day to gauge results. These give a more accurate picture than weight alone, especially when building lean muscle.
Support and guidance are key. Whether it’s through regular check-ins, structured programmes, or just knowing someone is in your corner, accountability keeps you on track when motivation dips.
